Collection: Domaine Bargylus

Making wine in Syria is a real challenge, due to the fact that it is a predominantly Syrian country.
Muslim, there is no culture of wine consumption and therefore a
well-developed wine industry.

The task became more difficult with the outbreak of the civil war, making it impossible to visit the
owned by the Saadé brothers (Sandro and Karim).

In addition to the obvious security issues, Domaine Bargylus faces problems
logistics: the harvest is done over the phone by the two brothers.
Grape samples are sent by taxi for tasting in Beirut in order to
determine the harvest dates for each plot; laboratory tests are performed outside the
country; exporting wines is also an extremely complex process.

The Bargylus vineyards are located precisely near Deir Touma, translated
literally as the “convent of Thomas”, not far from the remains
archaeological remains from the time of the Crusades and the illustrious Saladin.

Typically Mediterranean in style, Domaine Bargylus wines combine
elegantly strong and refined: it has a strong color, the range of aromas is noticeable
through the fresh fruit and minerality that reflects the very pebbly soil.

The balance between the sweetness, which comes with the sun and the full maturity of the grapes, and the
salinity that comes with limestone, allows Domaine Bargylus to impart a strong
soil identity and an inimitable flavor.
